Start in Ulaanbaatar with city highlights and visits to iconic landmarks. Then, head north to explore Khuvsgul Lake and meet local herders in the remote Darkhad Valley. Ride horseback through the Taiga to visit the Tsaatan reindeer herders and immerse yourself in their ancient way of life.
Continue west to the stunning Oigon and Khyargas Lakes, before reaching the breathtaking Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. Here, you’ll trek through glaciers, waterfalls, and mountains, and witness the fascinating tradition of eagle hunting in Bayan-Ulgii. Stay in traditional ger camps and local homestays for an authentic Mongolian experience. Day 1. Arrival Day & City Tour (L)
On this day, we will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to the hotel***.
If you want, you can rest for a while, and then we are going to start a city tour.

- Mongolian National History Museum and we will have dinner. Afterward, we will drop you off at your hotel. Eco-friendly tours

Day 2. Fly to Murun town, Khuvsgul Province (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will drive to Ulaan-Uul village. We will likely see local herders, gers, yaks, goats, cows, sheep, and horses living in the mountains and hills on the way. We will cross several rivers and streams and reach the Darkhad Valley in the evening. Eco-friendly tours
The valley is named after the Darkhad tribe, which has lived there for centuries. The Darkhad people are very closely related to the Khalkh Mongols, the prominent tribe of Mongolia, but they do speak their dialect and have their own customs. We will eat lunch on the road and stay in a guest house. Eco-friendly tours
Day 3. Drive to Tsagaan Nuur Village (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will drive to Tsagaan Nuur Village. We will visit and overnight at a local family's ger in Kharmai. We will eat lunch and talk about their nomadic life and culture. We also hike around the area and have dinner. Stay in a guest house. Eco-friendly tours

Day 4. Tsaatan "Reindeer herders"(B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will prepare for our horse trek through the Taiga region. A local family will have prepared horses for us. We will travel exclusively on horseback, as the reindeer herders' camp cannot be reached by car, and we will use pack horses to carry our luggage.

The trek will take us through the thick forests and mountains of the Taiga, a distinct ecological zone separate from the typical steppe. Travel time to the camp will take 2-3 hours. Upon our arrival, we will rest in a reindeer herder family's teepee. We will have dinner and spend time with the family that night, overnight in a teepee. Eco-friendly tours

Day 5. A Leisure day at Tsaatan's herding camp (B/L/D)
We will begin learning about the lifestyle of the reindeer people right at sunrise. After breakfast, we will see how they milk reindeer. These reindeer people have lived in this region, fishing, hunting, gathering fruit, and herding reindeer for many years. They practice shamanism and worship the mountain savdag (spirit). We will observe their lifestyle and take in the beauty of the Taiga Mountains and the lake nestled in the midst of the mountains. We will also learn about the handmade goods that allow the reindeer people to maintain their culture and lifestyle and to prepare their children to receive an education in this unique environment. Day 6. Return ride to Kharmai, Tsagaan Nuur village (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will ride our horses back to the Kharmai Valley, where we will leave our van and driver. We will have lunch on the way and stay at Renchinlumbe village.

Day 7. Drive to Khuvsgul Lake (B/L/D)
This morning, after having a hearty breakfast, we will drive to Lake Khuvsgul, known as the “Blue Pearl,” a pristine lake near the Mongolia–Russia border. From above, it appears deep blue, while its clear shallows reveal smooth stones beneath. Located about 200 km southwest of Lake Baikal, it’s often called its “younger sister.”
The lake spans 136 km in length, reaches 262 meters in depth, and holds nearly 70% of Mongolia’s fresh water—0.4% of the world’s supply. Its only outflow, the Egiin Gol, connects to the Selenge River and eventually flows into Lake Baikal.
Surrounded by the southern edge of the Siberian taiga, the area is rich in biodiversity and protected as a national park. Wildlife includes wolves, brown bears, moose, musk deer, and rare fish like the endemic Khuvsgul grayling.

Day 8. Drive to Murun Town, Khuvsgul Province (B/L/D)
Enjoy a free day at Lake Khuvsgul to relax and take in the stunning scenery. You can simply unwind by the lakeshore or choose from a range of optional activities, including boating on the crystal-clear waters, hiking in the surrounding forested hills, or horse riding along scenic trails. This is a perfect opportunity to experience the tranquility of Mongolia’s northern wilderness and connect with nature at your own pace.

Day 9. Drive to Oigon Lake (B/L/D)
We will set out early in the morning to drive to Oigon Lake near Tudevtei in Zavkhan province. Historically, Oigon Lake has been the setting of many wars for the independence of Khalkh Mongolia.Eco-friendly tours
The locals say that there are up to 108 small lakes in the area surrounding Oigon. We will enjoy the beautiful scenery of the surrounding area while resting and staying overnight.

Day 10. Drive to Khyrgas Lake (B/L/D)
The next stop on our trek is Khyargas Lake in Uvs province. It is one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in Mongolia. It covers 1.406 square kilometers and is 75 kilometers long, 31 kilometers wide, and 80 meters deep. Eco-friendly tours
The brackish water has rare fish, such as the Mongolian Grayling. We will rest to enjoy the scenery and stay overnight near the lake at a ger camp. Eco-friendly tours

Day 11. Drive to Bayan - Ulgii Province (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will continue heading west to Bayan-Ulgii province. We will have a lunch on the way. We will visit the Kazak national museum and stay in the Kazak guest house with dinner.

Day 12. Altai Tavan Bogd National Park (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will enter and explore Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. The park covers 630,000 hectares of land and has three large freshwater lakes, 34 glaciers, and several waterfalls. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Here, we will park our car and hike around the area. We will be camping in tents for the night. Eco-friendly tours

Day 13. Altai Tavan Bogd Treking - Tsagaan Gol (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will drive to Tsagaan Gol Valley and see the beautiful view. Afterward, we will head to the President's cairn and have lunch.
On the way, we can see the Malchin Peak. We will either camp in tents or stay overnight in a nearby nomadic family's ger. Eco-friendly tours

Day 14. Khoton & Khurgan Lake - Eagle Hunting Family (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will travel to Khoton and Khurgan Lakes. We will visit and interact with an eagle hunter's family and stay with the family overnight. Eco-friendly tours

Day 15. Drive to Ulgii Town (B/L/D)
In the morning, we will spend more time with the hunter and learn about the tradition of hunting with eagles. The eagle's eyes are covered until it is time to hunt, and it only communicates with its owner during the hunt. At some point between mid- and late-September, the fin feathers grow, and the eagles become strong enough to hunt and carry larger prey. Eco-friendly tours
We will also have a chance to see a traditional tug-of-war game that consists of pulling a goat skin between two competitors on horseback. Having a photo of holding an eagle in your hand is a fantastic memory. We will drive to Ulgii. Overnight at a Ulgii Hotel. Eco-friendly tours

Day 16. Fly to Ulaanbaatar City (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will do some sightseeing around Ulgii, if time allows, before our domestic flight back to Ulaanbaatar. Once you land, our driver and guide will pick you up from the airport and drop you off at your hotel or you can do some cashmere and souvenir shopping. And you will see traditional Mongolian folk concert. Farewell dinner, drop you off at your hotel. Eco-friendly tours

Day 17. Departure (B)
